Initial View is disabled on a Form created in LiveCycle ES2
Hi,
I am trying to change the preferences using the Initial View tool in Acrobat. I want to set it to open with bookmarks visible. However, the entire initial view page is disabled for me. The PDF is one that I created myself using LiveCycle Designer ES2. I am using Acrobat Pro X. Why would this functionality be disabled?

LiveCycle Form used on an iPad/Distribution Issues. PLEASE HELP!
I am a young designer with a complicated problem. I have virtually no experience building interactive forms and I have a client that wants to do the following:
-Take a form and fill out some of it on a pc
-Then send it to an iPad, use the app SignMyiPad to insert photos taken with the iPad into image fields in the partially filled out form-
-Fill out the rest form on the iPad
-Then send the fully filled out form back to a pc
For reference, he has given me a form that a business associate of his is already using to do the above, however, the designer that created the existing form quit and is now on bad terms with the associate. This means I can't ask this person about the process he used that makes this work. My background is in print design, but after watching a few tutorial videos and playing around with some of the features on my own I understand the basics of creating a form in LiveCycle (I think).
I've made several test forms (just a few fields on a page) to send to my client to make sure I could create what he wanted. Unfortunately, I can't even find out if the forms I created will work the way he wants because my biggest issue so far is actually getting the pdf onto his iPad! When I email the files, sometimes they show up as an attachment icon which he can touch (click) to save and work with but most of the time the pdfs appear in the body of the email like an embedded image and he can do nothing with them. Sometimes if I send a plain text email from Outlook, it makes it to his iPad as an attachment he can work with but that only worked once with a totally blank form. When I filled some of it out and tried again, the info that was typed into the form and was saved on the pc was lost when that same file made it to his inbox.
Can anyone offer any insight? I truly have no idea what I'm doing and I really don't want to let my client down.

How do you make a checkbox hidden or visible based on choices in a dropdown list?
I'm working on a quote request form. In a DropdDown List I have the following mail classes as values:
First Class
Periodical Non-Profit
Periodical Regular
Standard Non-Profit
Standard Periodical
I also have a CheckBox with the caption:Mailing List Provided.
I want to make it so that if a user selects Periodical Non-Profit or Periodical Regular from the DropDown List -- the CheckCox becomes visible (because a Mailing List is requried for these choices). And if the user makes the other selections, I want the CheckBox to be invisible. This seems easy enough to do but what script should I use?

calculating times in 15 minute increments
Good Afternoon,
I am making a form where we report how much leave is being used. The leave will be reported in 15 minute increments. (Ex: fifteen minutes = .15; one-half hour = .30; 45 minutes = .45) I need to be able to add these up and have them keep this format of 15 minute increments. Also, I need the display to be a decimal instead of a colon, if possible. (Ex. 3.45 instead of 3:45).
any advice is appreciated!!!

Replacement for LiveCycle Designer
I was informed recently by a client that Adobe is (will) be replacing LiveCycle Designer by a all new program, and it will be necessary to re-make all their forms with this new program, and they would rather use a contractor who is familiar with this new program.
Considering, I follow what’s going on with LiveCycle, I find it hard to believe that there is a new program that Adobe is coming out with to replace LiveCycle Designer ES4.
Could someone from Adobe confirm or deny the existence of this new program. My own opinion is that the new management just wishes to change contactors and is not being honest.

How to generate PDF reports using a form template with data binding to columns in MS Access?
I need to generate PDF reports for a list of individuals using records in a database table ( MS Access ).
The content(text and images) in the PDF report will be based on the values in the database columns but will be read only for the end user in the PDF report.
I have designed a PDF form in LifeCycle designer ES4. The form fields have been mapped to the table columns with records in MS Access.
Please guide on how I can generate the reports offline in bulk for all the records in the database.
Do I need any other Adobe product to do this or can I generate the reports from within LifeCycle Designer ES4 by pulling the data in the database, with minimal or no coding?
Any inputs will be appreciated.

Copying information from one repeating table to another repeating summary table?
Hi,
I have designed a dynamic form with a Table 1 (Investigator details) to be completed at the start to provide a list of investigators. This is a repeating table, and I have added buttons to add / delete an investigator (i.e. add/remove a row). I also have another repeating Table 2 at the end of the form to allow the investigators to be listed so they can insert a signature image (signature table).
Is it possible to set this up so that when one adds an investigator (row) in Table 1, a row is added automatically to Table 2? I then want the Title First name last name to copy into the "Investigator Full name" cell in Table 2. Can this be done and keep the automatic renumbering of the rows in both tables?
I am not sure how to upload a file to show you what I have, so please let me know and I can send a copy directly.
I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions for a code to do this.

Error using PDF Form from SAP/R3.
I am not sure if this is the right section to report this issue.
I got report from SAP Staff. Following are the detials.
Error is thrown when trying to display PDF From in SAP R/3.
The error is:
Call contained error(s). ADS (2Invalid HTTP Connection: ADS)
Message no. FPRUNX003.
Any idea what is the problem?

Arabic Text inside Static PDF LiveCycle Form is stored in weird order.
Please check this thread:
After doing lot of testing and investigation, I found out the following on SQL Server 2000 under Windows Server 2003 using Indexing Service:
1. Arabic Text in Static PDF Files (created using Adobe LiveCycle Desinger Static PDF with XDP for data binding) is stored using the unicode of the connected char shapes in reverse order !!!!!!
2. Arabic Text in MS Office Files is stored using the unicode of the isolated char shapes in normal order. This is the correct way as per my expectation.
I verified this when searching for the "Sick Leave" Form Requests. I found, by chance, the Arabic Text of "Sick" inside the "Characterization" result field and while it looks normal in Query Analyzer Window, when I verified the unicode value of each letter, I figured out what is going wrong. I used the following code in Query Analyzer to verify:

print unicode(substring(N'مرضية', 1, 1))
print nchar(65251)
print nchar(1605)

I have stored some Arabic Text in a regular TXT File, but until now, it is not picked up by the Indexing Service scanning engine (since one week). Once it is scanned, I will confirm the result.
I think I need to post this question to Adobe Support.
Any one can help with this?

Changing X coordinate appears not to work
I have a text field directly on a master page (there is a good reason for this) and I want to change it's X coordinate using Javascript code like this:
// directly call the "x" attribute
this.x = "200mm";
// use a method call to change it
this.setAttribute ("200mm", "x");
I tried using events like initilalize, calculate, form:ready, form:layout, but the field won't move.
What is strange is that changing the field width works, using similar code:
// directly call the "w" attribute
this.w = "200mm";
// use a method call to change it
this.setAttribute ("200mm", "w");
What am I missing? After some googling it appears these two fields ("x" for X coordinate and "w" for width) are pretty much alike.
I would be happy if someone could tell me if this works for him/her. At least I would now I haven't reached a dead end.
I'm using Lifecycle ES2 by the way.

Best way to insert Degree symbol?
Hello,
I have an inspection form set up for restaurant/health inspectors. Often times during an inspection they need to enter temperatures of food and like to use the degree symbol. They're running this form on a convertible tablet pc, so a normal keyboard is not available to them in tablet mode and when in laptop mode using the combination of ALT+0176 that's still a PITA because the keyboard doesn't have full number pad and the people using this form aren't the most computer literate people out there to be able to activate the Function keys to endable number pad keys and then enter an ASCII code many times during an inspection.
I was looking for suggestion on how to inforporate something into the form to assist in entering the degree symbol in any text field they are in at the position of the cursor.
The idea's I've though of are:
1.) A command button that inserts the symbol, but I'm afraid clicking the button would lose focus of the destination field and there'd need to be a lot of scripting to remember which field was the last one they were in to insert it in the correct one.
2.) A Button or On Load event which somehow inserts the degree symbol into the Windows clipboard, but during the course of an inspection they might copy and paste something else thus clearing it out.
3.) Some kind of auto-replace of text. Not sure if that's possible in an adobe form. E.g. if they type 'deg.' have the form auto replace it to '°'.
4.) A special key press. Not sure if Adobe can listen to a special key sequence not used by Adobe and Windows, say CTRL + D which when pressed inserts a degree symbol in the current location.
5.) Any way to place a special icon on Adobe's tool bar to insert the degree symbol at the currently location?
Those were some ideas I'm thinking of. Many are probably dead ends. If you had this problem, how would you approach it?

Display image based on drop down selection.
I'm new to Live Cycle Designer and trying to create a form where you can select a name of an image from a drop down list and that image will appear on the page to be printed. The images would vary in size if that matters.
I copy and pasted code using Microsoft Front Page and it works but not sure how to convert it to a .pdf. Maybe it isn't even possible as I'm wondering where the images would reside??

Adobe LiveCycle Designer 11.0 with AveryDennison printer MLI language problem

We are using the SAP software which calls the SAP ME, and we downloaded the version Adobe LiveCycle Designer 11.0 from SAP support portal and use it for design our production label templates. Our printer type is called Avery Dennison, and it works in generally. But recently we got a requirement for a new label template. For this template we are asked to use some special font type, and we can design it in the Designer, and after that we tried the label printing, with the option Configuration File zebra300dpi - and in the Avery Dennison printer we setup the printer languge as MLI. We tried to print but we realized the special font cannot be sent from Adobe LiveCycle Designer to this printer, because the label comes from the printer always has the font Arial.
Do you have any idea whether I need upgrade anything to have the Adobe LiveCycle Designer support the special font to this kind of Avery Dennison printers?
PS - We tried another label designer tool, and from the designer side we also set the print lauguage as zebra, and printed the label which contains the special font successfully, which means the Avery Dennison printer with MLI language support the special fonts other than the Arial.

Saving Dynamic Form as PDF Destroys Dynamic Table Scripting
I have a table that works perfectly until the user saves the dynamic form and re-opens it. If they start editing the form (adding rows to a table), save it, and go back in, the table goes haywire.
The table is a two tiered Table. You add a row to the top table, it will also add a row to the bottom table. (Is this something LiveCycle cannot handle properly?)
The bottom table rows will completely delete themselves and my remove row button stops functioning. What is happening to the scripting when the user saves the form? The form is being saved as a dynamic PDF. Other tables in the form still work fine. It is only the two tiered table that breaks when saving.
Windows 7. Acrobat DC 17. LiveCycle ES4. Preserve scripting changes to form when saved is set to automatic.
User enters data into table 1 row 1, and then enters corresponding data into table 2 row 1. This is how it looks and how it should look. If you click an X it will remove the corresponding row, and also the corresponding row on Table 2. So if you click the X on table 1 row 2. Table 1 and 2 will both have their row 2s removed.
Here is what happens after the user simply saves it, and re opens it in Adobe
Table 2, the bottom table, has all rows but 1 disappear. The first cell grows and makes a giant Row 1. Also, the remove instance buttons on table 1 stop functioning.
How does saving a Dynamic Form in Adobe and re opening, make the javascript no longer function? Everything works without error, up until the user saves and re opens the form. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Note* there is no data binding or auto fill between the two tables, it is all user entered.

How to set display patterns on a decimal field to handle user text entered in error.
Hi
I'm creating a PDF in LiveCycle, which has a decimal field with the display pattern 'num{zzz,zzz,zz9.99}'. The idea is for users to enter a numerical value with a maximum of two decimal points (i.e. 1,234.01)
Now I'm testing this form out to see whether it'll handle any incorrect user entries - especially the scenario where a user enters some string (letters) in this field by error. When I'm testing this scenario on Acrobat Pro, any text entries will be cleared out as soon the user tabs out of the field (which is exactly what I want it to do as it only should accept numerical values).
However when testing this out in Adobe Reader (with Reader Extendability switched on), any text entries are replaced with a "0.00" when the user tabs out of the field. Unfortunately this is not what I want . Replacing an incorrect entry with a 0.00 is actually a misrepresentation, because 0.00 is a valid entry that the users should be allowed to enter if they want to (hope that last sentence made sense ).
Does anyone have any ideas how this can be sorted? I'm thinking this is something to do with the "Allow Empty" or the "Allow Zero" settings on the display pattern window. But i haven't got a clue on where to start because I've never used those settings before. Any help anyone can provide me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How do I white-out or hide existing printing on a document? RUSH
Hello, I'm rushing to complete a project, and I was given a PDF document to fill out by hand!!! No way with my writing. I converted the PDF to a PDF form. The PDF has some text and lines that interfer with the text fields I added in LiveCycle. How can I cover-up, white-out, or hide these unwanted lines and text?
