Problem with expanding textfield in Adobe LiveCycle Designer

$

I've got an urgent problem with Adobe LiveCycle Designer and I really could use some help. The problem is that I'm trying to get my textfield expandable, but whatever I try, it's not working. What I'm trying to get done is that you can fill in a textfield, and when there is more text than the size of the field, the textfield expands to make the text fit in the field.

I tried a whole lot of things:
placing the textfield in a subform
expand to fit (height)
allow multiple lines
allow page breaks
flowed/positioned
etc.

The strange thing is, that no matter what I try to adjust, I can't change anything in the pagination tab. Maybe that is the problem, but I don't know what to do, to change that.
In the examples of Adobe itself (Purchase Form) is an example of a textfield that sort of behaves as I want it to, BUT the problem is that that textfield in the subform has to be triggered to appear by a button (add comments) and that is what I don't want. I want the textfield to be visible from the beginning. But in that example you CAN see the pagination tab and make changes in it.

I searched a lot in the Adobe Helpfiles of Designer, and I even bought and read/studied the book 'Creating Dynamic Forms with Adobe LiveCycle Designer', but still I'm not able to get this done.

Is there anyone who can help me?

Thanks in advance,

Sterre

cannot export default value when exporting to XML using web service

$

Hello All,

In Designer, I create a new data connection (XML Schema), and bind 3 fields to the nodes, these 3 fields have default value in order to distinguish each form. For example, formLanguage=E, formVersion=1.0.0, formType=form1.

After applying reader extension to the form, I use web service API to export the form data to XML ("soap/services/FormDataIntegration?blob=mtom").

In the XML, i cannot find the default value of 3 fields. the nodes are empty.

In order to see the value of them reflected in the generated XML, I have to open the form, save it, then their value will be shown.

One more observation:

I fill in some other fields in the form with data, but keep those 3 fields with default value untouched. This form is copied to another machine. In that machine, do the export, although the XML generates the manual-input data, it doesn't have value for these 3 fields.

Do you have any suggestion what I can deal with it? In order to identify and distinguish the form, am i doing the wrong thing from the beginning?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I created a simple form with Livescycle and even if when i look at the PDF with adobe reader, i can see enought privilege, i cannot really save the content.

Basically, i can open the PDF, fill the fields, save the document but when i reopen the document afterward, the content has disapeared. If i look at the same PDF with notepad, i can see the values next to the field but the values are not visible anymore in the reader.

You can download the file from that location :

I have tried a lot of thing before to take the decision to post a message here but despite my efforts, i am not able to figure out where is the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help....

How do I lock PDF before e-mailing so that it cannot be altered by the recipient?

I've created a form in LiveCycle which will be seen and filled by users who only have Reader.

Once the form is completed, the user has to click three buttons: one prints the page (for a specific paper-based usage required by the filler of the form). The same button  sends the entire form to one e-mail address.

The second button prepares the form for submission to a second e-mail recipient. This recipient must not be able to see some of the filled fields on the form. As well as setting these fields to invisible, the second button also hides key fields behind a text message, telling the second recipient where to find the information that is most useful to them on the form. Again, this recipient will be using only Acrobat Reader.

Everything works fine, apart from when it comes to e-mailing the form to the second recipient. I've used various scripts I've found on this forum and elsewhere to lock fields before sending and I've extended Reader rights in Acrobat. But, whatever I do, the form received by the recipients is STILL editable, the "invisible" fields are visible again and also editable,  and the test box that obscured key fields has become invisible again.

I've already tried using a range of scripts that I've found both on this forum and elsewhere (including Paul Guerrett's 'Lock All Fields' and 'Lock All Fields Not Buttons' scripts. I've also tried using the scripts in different 'events' - mouse up, mouse down, click etc.

What am I doing wrong? I've spent days trying to figure this out and I'm getting nowhere.

I am  a JavaScript novice, by the way. So please keep it simple and (better still) provide working script! Thanks to anyone who can help

Overflowing table row content not moving into the next page

Hi All,

I am facing issue with overflowing table row content. Following is the screenshot of the last page of the form.

overflowing table row issue.JPG

This is how the form has structured.

In the line items table, the column is for the Item Description. contains several fields (8 in number). One of them is batch information.

The Batch Information is a text field for which multiple lines have been enabled.

The Textfield has been made to expand in height.

All the 8 textfields in the "Description" column are wrapped in a flowed subform with page breaks enabled.

The Table Body Row is also made to be page break enabled. The Batch Information Text field can contain hundreds of lines, in which case the page should break

and content should flow into the next page. At the end of each page there is a footer element which is a part of the master page.

In the image inserted in the discussion question, you can see the expanded subform for "Description" column has overlapped into the Master Page content (Footer Element).

Surprisingly it has also gone beyond the area provided by content area.

The line Item table at runtime is getting populated with 2 two rows. The first line item gets populated properly with page breaks and content overflow. The first line item contains around 200 lines in batch information field.

While rendering the second line item, the above mentioned issue happens.

Can you please help me out to find the root cause of this issue.

Thanks,

Rohit

Multiple Master Pages - How to setup next page

$

Hi All,

We are designing a adobe form in Life Cycle designer.

We have three master pages (say MPage1, MPage2 & Mpage3)

And we have one Body page(subform\Page) in which we have table who's data is getting displayed over 5 to 10 Pages.

Now for this boy page (Bpage1) in the "Pagigation" tab we have set content area of MPage1 and for overflow content area of MPage2.

What we need now is first page should be MPage1 and 2nd page should be Mpage2 - (this is working fine as well)

After that we need 3rd page as MPage3 and 4th page as MPage2 and so on.

That means after first page, we need Page 2 & 3 should be repeated one after the other.

Like - MPage1-- MPage2 -- Mpage3 -- MPage2 -- Mpage3 -- MPage2 -- Mpage3 -- MPage2 -- Mpage3

We believe, on the table, on some event, through Java coding we need to change "Overflow Page" setting depending on current page number.

So how to set, which page should be used as nextoverflow page.

Kindly suggest.

Regards,

Amit

"You cannot save data typed into this form" !

Has anyone figured out a workaround?  I know there are other free viewers (tracker software) but small business client isn't going to like that they have to pour thousands into reader extensions.  There must be a way for a PDF designed in LiveCycle ES4 v.11 and allow the end user to save a copy (and submit via email) from Acrobat Reader DC.  I see lots of threads complaining about this very simple problem but I do not see any solutions that utilize a free adobe reader.  I am aware of the PRINT to PDF solution but not all end users have a PDF printer on their computer.  Adobe please help.

Dynamically populating a text field on the Master Page

$

I'm trying to populate a text field on the Master Page of a form by having it populate as a user types data into a text field in a content area.  So far, I have it populating when the user puts the cursor into the Master Page text field and then leaves that field after typing data in the text field in the content area.  I want the text field in the Master Page to populate as the user types in the text field in the content area, so it looks like both fields are being filled simultaneously.

The script which now populates the text field in the Master Page is

this.rawValue = MNPD.Form130.Page1.CSIInfo.CPN.rawValue;

This script is in the Enter, Exit, Calculate and Validate events of the Master Page text field.

I suspect that I am not correctly referencing the Master Page text field when trying to put a script in the content area text field events.

From the Hierarchy, the Master Page text field is   MNPD > Master Pages > PageArea1 > CPN and the text field in the content area is

MNPD > Form130 > Page1 > CSIInfo > CPN

I have tried putting the following scripts in the exit event of MNPD>Form130>Page1>CSIInfo>CPN and they have all failed:

MNPD.#pageSet[0].PageArea1.CPN.rawValue = this.rawValue;

MNPD.pageSet[0].PageArea1.CPN.rawValue = this.rawValue;

MNPD.pageSet.PageArea1.CPN.rawValue = this.rawValue;

I even tried renaming Master Pages to MasterPages and replacing pageSet with MasterPages and that didn' t work.

How does one do this?

schema binding versus XML data binding

I have been able to create a fillable XFA form using XML data and employing the xfa.host.importData(""); script.
This has worked well.

I now find that I must do a similar thing - only using a schema to bind the data to the PDF form fields ...

Can you help me to find out what the differences are between these two approaches and alos can you help me to find some good documentation on how to perform this ?

thanks

Hi,

I am trying to change the preferences using the Initial View tool in Acrobat.  I want to set it to open with bookmarks visible.  However, the entire initial view page is disabled for me.  The PDF is one that I created myself using LiveCycle Designer ES2.  I am using Acrobat Pro X.  Why would this functionality be disabled?

Thanks,

Image field rotation issue associated with images imported from iOS devices

$

I currently have My Photo Stream activated on my iOS device so that anytime a photo is taken it's automatically saved to the Photo Stream album within iOS which also syncs with the iCloud for Windows desktop app. The idea is that I would take a photo on my iPad and have it show up in the synced folder in Windows (e.g. iCloud Photos), then using a PDF form with an image field (via Windows), I'd select an image from the iCloud Photo folder to embed into the form.

All works well, but I noticed each image taken in Portrait mode is automatically rotated to landscape within the image field. The orientation of the images appear fine when displayed via Windows Photo Viewer and/or the new Photos app in Windows 10, but every time the image is inserted into the image field (having a Portrait orientation), it gets rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise within the field.

I believe this has something to do with the EXIF data embedded in the image file, but its my understanding LiveCycle designer supports JPG images that include digital camera Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) data.

Has anyone else experienced this? At this point the only solution is to take the photo in Landscape orientation and it imports fine...not ideal, though!

XML data binding works in preview, but not in Reader

I have made a form that is bound to a single XML file, where a subform can appear multiple times when there are multiple bound data elements.

This works very well in LiveCycle's preview---the subform indeed appears multiple times with each data element appearing in an instance of the subform.

The end users, of course, have Adobe Reader. And when I try to load the same form in Reader, there seems to be no data binding to the XML file, and I cannot find a way to establish it. What am I doing wrong?

Reader can write manually entered data into an XML file. This means that it must be able to re-read that file, in case the user wants to correct something or add more data later. But I have not found how to do it. What am I overlooking?

I've tested with Adobe Reader 8.13. Could that be the reason? Do I need version 9? I'm hesitant to install 9, because I need to test with 8, and that is already awkward with Acrobat and LiveCycle also on the same computer.

Need JScript fix: Alert box cancel button not working!

Hello all,

My form has an option for the user to delete subforms/records as needed. Acrobat does allow for Undo- so if my user accidentally clicks "delete", they're stuck.

I added an alert box to ask "Are you sure...", with "yes" and "cancel" buttons.  But when I click the cancel button, it deletes anyway!

Here is the script I'm using:

if(xfa.host.messageBox("Are you sure you want to delete? This cannot be undone.","Confirmation Required !!!",2,2)==4)

{

     xfa.host.Delete.click();

}

else

{

     xfa.host.cancel.Action=2;

}

and here's the form:

Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 - C++ Crash on Preview PDF attempt

Hi guys,

I'm desperately after some help with a small yet frustrating issue that occurs while attempting to preview pdf in LiveCycle Designer ES2 9.0.0.2.20101008.1.734229

The shortish story:

Adobe Reader X build 10.0.0   <--- Set as default PDF handler

Adobe Acrobat X Pro build 10.0.1

Adobe Livecycle Designer ES2 build 9.0.0.2.20101008.1.734229

All three programs work flawlessly individually, yet while working on any document - new or existing with LiveCycle Designer, the program receives a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

This happens as soon as you try clicking Preview PDF

Once accepted the next error stats LiveCycle needs to close.

I have ensured that Adobe Reader X is the default PDF handler.

I have repaired all adobe apps, deleted the 'c:\users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Designer' folder and recreated to no avail.

Computer details:

Windows 7 Enterprise - domain environment

Administrator user account - full control

Other installed programs of possible interest for interference to the .DLL :

Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime SP1

Crystal Reports XI Release 2 .NET 2005 Server

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Connectivity tools

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable 9.0.30729.17

This problem also affects our locked down standard Windows 7 users on the domain.

Any ideas on how to fix the issue would be much appreciated.

LiveCycle Designer ES4 crashes on Preview PDF

$

I am running LiveCycle Designer ES4 sp1, with Acrobat DC and Windows 10. I can preview a pdf in LCD but it will eventually just crash. This is regardless of whether it is a file I've worked on or a brand new file. I believe I can reproduce it by switching to Preview PDF (first time it works fine), go back to design mode then back to preview PDF and it crashes. If I switch to Reader, I can work with files without a crash.

The message is:

Adobe LiveCycle Designer has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I tried removing the AppData but that did not solve the problem.
